The New Mexico Department of Agriculture will open its next application period for Healthy Soil Program grants in March 2022.

In order to help Eligible Entities and Individual Applicants prepare to apply for a grant to improve their soil health, NMDA will host two webinars in January 2022. Please click on the appropriate link below to register to attend:
  • Tuesday, January 11 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. if you represent an Eligible Entity that will apply for a grant to improve the soil health on land the Eligible Entity owns, leases, or manages; or to help the farmers, ranchers, and other land managers in the Eligible Entity’s jurisdiction improve the health of their soil. The legislation on which NMDA’s Healthy Soil Program is based defines Eligible Entities as “local governmental [entities] with proven land management capacity to support healthy soil”, including:
Nations, tribes, and pueblos
Land grants
Acequias
Soil and water conservation districts (SWCDs)
NMSU’s Cooperative Extension Service
  • Thursday, January 13 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. if you will apply for a grant as an Individual Applicant (a farmer, rancher, or other land manager; or a business or nonprofit engaged in production agriculture or land management) wanting to improve the health of your soil. Nations, tribes, and pueblos; and soil and water conservation districts (SWCDs) are also encouraged to attend this webinar, given that Individual Applicants need the support of an SWCD or tribal entity in order to apply for a Healthy Soil Program grant.
More information is available at www.nmda.nmsu.edu/healthy-soil-program, where you can also subscribe to NMDA’s new Healthy Soil Program newsletter.
