Hey, we'd love to hear why you choose to farm, ranch or garden. What made you start in agriculture, and what keeps you going? What makes all the work worthwhile to you? I think we'll all have different reasons, and we'd love to hear yours!

I guess I was lucky in knowing I wanted to be in agriculture since I was about 5 years old, helping my Dad milk cows and doing chores. I never went through a period like many young people coming of age of trying to find myself. I just knew I loved the agriculture lifestyle and all (well most of it) that went with it. My focus and interests in farming/ranching changed through out my life, but it was always ag related. I loved the livestock, the smell of freshly tilled soil, and the smell of fresh cut hay. While I no longer till soil, I have replaced that interest with the desire for healthy soils and how to achieve that.

I love what you wrote, High Plainsman! I wish more people could be as lucky as we have been, to be born on and for the land. I am such a fan of the Quivira Coalition's New Agrarian program and of WWOOFing, where more people can connect with regenerative agriculture, the deep satisfaction of healing soil, building community, producing healthy food, and restoring hope for a better future. Thanks for your post, High Plainsman!

You've said it all, and said it well, emilyjost!!!🥰 That's why we're so fortunate to be agriculturalists, and why the world is so fortunate that we choose this lifework!
